The Holidays are once again approaching us quickly.  During the holidays many families have potlucks, which can be very stressful.  During this holiday season you will receive some pointers to help you break the yearly stressful routine of the meal deal.  The deal normally consist of many family members or friends making a promise to bring various entrees to the gathering.  Many times this causes conflict prior, during and after the event because someone broke their promise.  A major complaint is that not only did they break their promise but took most of the food home.  This can cause conflict and stress within the family system and even prevent family members from gathering in the coming years.  This may sound petty but for some families it becomes out of control.  It becomes so out of control that family members no longer want to host the holidays at their home.   So before we embark on the upcoming holidays take heed to the previous year and learn from it.   If you are like the many individuals that wait until the last minute to prepare for the Holiday’s this can become very frustrating.  This can be very stressful if you are the host and your home is being utilized for the family’s big day.   It is crucial that you plan, organize and prepare to help in reducing stress during this time.  Planning and preparing is a major stress reducer because it reduces your worries especially when it comes to preparing your meals.  You no longer have to worry about forgetting small details of your meals.  If you create a to-do list and check your balances this will put you ahead of the game.  If  you are inviting family members over this can also add to your stress level especially if everyone is bringing an item for the meal.  Timeliness is a major factor in this category especially if you have family members that are always late with the main entrees.  Below I am going to share some tips on having an awesome Holiday and still being able to enjoy your meal and family.

  • Don’t give the late comers main entrees to bring for the meal like (turkey, veggies etc.)

  • Always have a backup supply of paper plates, cups and utensils just in case the designated person is late.

  • Always have your version of a complete meal cooked even though others will be bringing items.   Make sure you prepare enough for everyone.  This is a major stress reliever because now you are not worried if someone forgot to bring something.

  • Taste test everything to make sure it is to your liking.

  • Go to the grocery as early as possible to avoid long lines and your items on your check list being out.  Remember that during the holiday’s everyone is shopping and if you wait until the last minute your checklist of items may suffer.  This will only produce more stress because now you have to go store hopping looking for your ingredients.

Embrace these tips and you will have a better Holiday during this season.
