Chikeitha Owens is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor. She is also a Certified Bariatric Counselor providing pre- surgery Bariatric Mental Health Evaluations. She has worked in the social service/mental health field for the past 20 years, spanning from inpatient substance abuse /psychiatric settings to outpatient psychiatric. She currently practices Independently at Abundance of Hope Counseling in Corinth, Texas. Through an eclectic approach she provides individual, premarital, marriage and couples counseling. Chikeitha provides EAP services for small business who can't afford to offer services to their employees on a large scale.
She comes to your session using creative interventions along with life experiences a wealth of resources and knowledge. She provides individual and family therapy to the general public and also to children in Kinship, Adoption and Foster care placements. This has allowed her to go into many homes and observe many different family dynamics. For years she has provided Kinship Assessments/home studies for children being placed in care. She is skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Over the years, she has gained specialized experience with adults, youth and children in multiple settings including being an investigator for Office of Inspector General, Texas Department of Family Protective Services, working for various foster care licensing agencies (Covenant Kids, Lutheran Social Services of the South and Child and Family Guidance Center), community agencies (Dallas County MHMR - Metrocare), substance abuse inpatient treatment (Nexus Recovery Center) and outpatient psychiatric settings. She completed her intern hours at Nexus Recovery Center providing individual and group counseling to women in their substance abuse inpatient program. She is also a Christian Author and speaker and provide educational, motivational, training's and workshops for Professionals, teens and adults. Her book Living Life for What it is book and workbook (Purchase here) helps readers to gain a closer relationship with Christ while going through their trials of life. She has spent time teaching and has taught on college level (Westwood College) teaching General Psychology. She has also worked as an elementary, middle school and high school Substitute teacher.
Chikeitha spends time advocating for many causes including Women Empowerment, Suicide and Domestic violence. Not only does she have all of the above experience but she is able to meet her clients where they are at and understand that life has has many struggles. Chikeitha has functioned as a part-time pancreas for the past 15 years caring for her two son's living with Juvenile Type One Diabetes so this is another where she advocates and mentors other families that are newly diagnosed. She has also spoken on the Emotional Roller Coaster of Juvenile Diabetes at the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Type One Nation Summit ).
